Melbourne's Attractions
Maybe the best way to get to know Melbourne is through the City Circle Tram Tour. Hop on one of the free trams that circle the main business district and you’ll be able to reach many of Melbourne’s most popular attractions. Meet locals in Federation Square, Melbourne’s centrally-located entertainment and event hub. Find eclectic souvenirs and tasty produce at the historic Queen Victoria Market, which offers night markets and tours. Or head to the Docklands, where you can find the 120-foot Melbourne Star Ferris wheel and shopping and entertainment options aplenty in Waterfront City. Each site is a short walk away from one of the tram’s 28 stops.
Melbourne is also considered Australia’s sports capital, and it’s easy to see why. Not only do many of the country’s most important sporting events take place here, but some of the world’s biggest, like the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and two Rugby World Cups. You’ll find many of the top sites in the city’s Sports and Entertainment Precinct. Each January, Melbourne Park hosts the Australian Open, one of tennis’ Grand Slam events. Australian Rules Football hosts its Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the world’s 10th biggest stadium. Also on site are the National Sports and Olympic Museums. You’ll find a great mix of people on the tours that are offered at each site.
